Under Counter Table Ideas for Mini Kitchens

At a loss on how to make full use of a compact kitchen? Fret not as I provide tips and suggestions on maximizing space in a small kitchen using contemporary interior ideas and the latest kitchen appliances:

Be appliance savvy – Consider a fridge with an integral mini-freezer if you don’t want to be bothered with frozen food. Rarely use the oven? Choose small single ovens, or pick units that prioritize grills and hobs; look at two burners, rather than four, if you hardly cook. Also, consider a microwave or a counter-top mini-oven which keeps your worktop clear while your food bubbles at eye level. When dinner is done, this oven can be lowered to counter level, so no dangerous stretching is required.

Think small – Now kitchen appliances brands include wall-set which means stacked oven/grills/microwave and dishwasher combinations, as well as slimline white goods. Some brands even do a pull-out telescopic extractor hood, which slots back under the cupboards after use. Check out also brands which offer counter-top dishwashers.

Get storage smart – Ceiling space and back of doors are great for suspending smaller items. The dead space behind doors can be used to hang up door organizers, bags or even memo boards to organize your accessories. Also cupboards with roll-up or shutter style fronts or sliding doors are great for smaller kitchens as they are super space friendly with no door swing space to allow for. Consider too bespoke corner units with roll-out shelves and make the most of under-sink areas and worktop/dining counters with storage below.

Be clever with walls – Glass cabinet doors and walls can make a useful memo board for the forgetful; simply write on them with non-permanent markers. You can use the shower door, kitchen cabinets, or even a framed picture as a memo board – you can’t miss it! There are also savvy shelving and wall-mounted appliances as well as fold-out tables with hanging rails – walls are your friend in small spaces.

Employ some trickery – Floating units, flush handles, translucent shelf fronts, white or pale colors, integrated counters/units, drop-leaf tables and task lighting all maximize a sense of space.
